Montessori Philosophy

Maria Montessori was the first woman in Italy to graduate from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Rome in 1896.  Her work with young children led Dr. Montessori to develop an approach to education strongly influenced by her scientific training.  This approach is used by thousands of Montessori programs all around the world. 

The Montessori Method is an educational approach with a strong philosophical foundation.  Materials are placed on the shelves with the educational needs of each individual child in mind.  The children have the freedom to choose which materials they wish to take the time and delve into. The community of teachers and children learn from one another for three full years.

The materials are carefully chosen to foster the love of learning that is innate in every child.

Our specially trained teachers individualize lessons and base them on readiness rather than on chronological age. 

Nature

Children are drawn to the world around them with beautifully designed classrooms and  an outside area.  Both areas provide the opportunity to learn about plant and animal care.

Educational

The five areas of the classroom include sensorial, practical life,  math, language and geography.  These areas are refreshed throughout the year with new materials as the children are ready for them.
